What is screen printing?

Screen printing is where ink is pressed through a silk screen onto fabric. A stencil is used so the ink is applied only to selected areas, and a different stencil needs to be used for each colour. It’s the traditional, and most common way to print T-shirts, delivering a very bright, solid, durable result. It’s great for creating large areas of solid pattern, however not so good at a reproducing photographic effects.

This is where a water based ink is printed from a digital file, directly onto the garment. As there are no set-up processes involved, it’s a much more flexible approach, allowing you to easily print one of a number of different designs, in one print run. The end result is not quite as bold as a screen printed T-shirt, however the detail that can be achieved, is remarkable.

Minimum quantity: 15.

Best for: Photographic effects, full colour images.

Print onto: T-shirts hoodies, jersey, singlets.

Exceptions: Can’t print metallic, spot or fluoro. Must be 100% cotton.

Generally only one colour is used, but different colours can be overlayed to produce some really nice effects. Vinyl also comes in many different formats such as metallic, fluorescent, flock and reflective colours.
